Emilia Hi, welcome to Europe Builds. I'm Emilia.

Erik And I'm Erik.

Emilia Looking at recent news around Dublin, there seems to be a clear shift toward solving very practical infrastructure bottlenecks rather than just chasing hype.

Erik Right. University spin-outs are a good mirror for that. Consider Go Eve, coming out of UCD and Imperial College London.

Emilia Silicon Republic reported they just raised seven hundred and fifty thousand pounds from Innovate UK and private backers for sequential fleet charging.

Erik Their system connects multiple parked vehicles to a single DC fast charger, rather than needing an individual high-power terminal for every single bay.

Emilia It sounds like a direct response to grid capacity caps in commercial depots. You simply cannot dig up every street to install massive substations.

Erik Exactly. Fleet managers might have thirty delivery vans parked overnight, but they don't all need maximum power simultaneously.

Emilia What caught my eye in their report was the hardware reality check. Vehicles do not always behave consistently when charging pauses and resumes.

Erik John Goodbody from Go Eve noted that some vehicles hesitate or refuse to restart after a pause without human intervention.

Emilia Which defeats automated overnight scheduling if a driver has to walk out at three in the morning to unplug and replug a cable.

Erik So this new funding targets firmware and custom hardware to handle handshake renegotiations seamlessly. They aim for manufacturing delivery by 2027.

Emilia They are also testing bi-directional vehicle-to-grid support, turning parked fleets into temporary battery storage during peak demand.

Erik If commercial EV adoption approaches forty or fifty percent by 2030 as projected, smart orchestration becomes essential for depot survival.

Emilia It is fascinating seeing academic research from UCD's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering translating into practical industrial hardware.

Erik Suppose a fleet operator wanted to test that technology without disrupting current logistics schedules?

Emilia They might begin with a limited trial on just five delivery vans before committing to an entire depot overhaul.

Erik That could help identify whether custom firmware would handle real-world connector faults smoothly under cold conditions.

Emilia One possible tradeoff could be the extra operational overhead needed to monitor charging anomalies manually during early pilot phases.

Erik What evidence might prompt an engineering crew to delay a broad depot rollout?

Emilia They might look for recurring communication dropouts during peak grid throttling hours before signing off on full installation.

Erik Speaking of academic roots, there is another Dublin graduate founder making waves across the Atlantic with enterprise software.

Emilia You mean Aaron Devitt from Technological University Dublin. His company Marc just secured a five million dollar seed round.

Erik Yes, taking their total funding to six million. Silicon Republic noted the round drew backing from founders at Braze, Fin, and Wayflyer.

Emilia Marc focuses on property management back-office headaches, specifically reconciling fragmented vendor invoices against complex master contracts.

Erik Their premise is stark: they claim almost all property management invoices are currently paid without ever being verified against original service agreements.

Emilia Think about large institutional residential portfolios. When you manage thousands of units, you have thousands of utility, maintenance, and cleaning bills.

Erik And Marc argues that every single dollar lost to unnecessary operating expenditure can erode up to twenty dollars in underlying asset valuation.

Emilia Because commercial real estate valuations rely heavily on net operating income multiples. Minor billing leaks compound into major portfolio losses.

Erik While Marc is dual-headquartered with a strong base in New York, they maintain active development and operations in Dublin.

Emilia It reflects a classic Dublin playbook: build technical foundations at home, validate in Britain and Ireland, then scale commercial go-to-market in North America.

Erik And Devitt mentioned they were already operating profitably before raising, which is unusual for early-stage software raising five million in this climate.

Emilia Profitability gives founders real leverage. You raise growth equity to seize an opening rather than simply to keep the lights on.

Erik Work-Bench noted that Marc is effectively building a hyperlocal database of multifamily operating expenses, creating proprietary market intelligence over time.

Emilia Suppose an asset manager wondered how reliable automated reconciliation would be across legacy paperwork?

Erik They might run a dual audit where human accountants compare sampled automated flags against manual reviews.

Emilia What evidence might convince cautious partners to grant software write permissions into general ledger accounts?

Erik An operator would probably demand sustained low false-positive rates over several quarters before approving automated deductions.

Emilia Imagine if contractual terms varied widely across regional commercial suppliers?

Erik An operator would probably need custom parsing templates to prevent erroneous invoice rejections.

Emilia One possible tradeoff could be the upfront engineering time needed to configure idiosyncratic vendor clauses.

Emilia Yet despite these individual funding triumphs, the wider employment picture across corporate tech in Dublin presents a much more complicated reality.

Erik Very much so. The headlines over the last few days show sharp divergence between different segments of the Irish tech economy.

Emilia RTÉ reported that Flutter is cutting fourteen hundred jobs worldwide, with around two hundred and forty positions directly at risk in Dublin.

Erik Meanwhile, global majors like Barclays, eBay, and EA have announced thousands of cuts tied partly to efficiency drives and automation.

Emilia At the same time, Silicon Republic noted Bloomberg plans to double its Dublin headcount by 2030, and Whatnot is doubling its Irish team.

Erik So capital and headcount are reallocating quickly, rather than witnessing a uniform downturn across the board.

Emilia Business group Ibec published research suggesting over a third of Irish companies have yet to model the financial impact of AI adoption.

Erik Though interestingly, another Ibec survey found leaders do not anticipate net headcount decreases across 2027 due directly to AI.

Emilia That contrast suggests organizations are still trying to understand whether productivity gains mean fewer employees or simply different operational skills.

Erik Skills readiness is the underlying challenge. We saw reports that Fast Track to Information Technology and Intel partnered to upskill workers in AI.

Emilia And there were clear warnings from advocacy group I Wish that young women risk being left behind if technical education doesn't evolve quickly.

Erik If routine administrative tasks diminish, entering the workforce requires direct technical literacy and problem-solving skills much earlier in a career.

Emilia If mid-sized employers wanted to prepare teams for automated tools, how should they structure that transition?

Erik They might offer voluntary internal shadowing programs before making structural changes to departmental headcount.

Emilia One possible tradeoff could involve balancing temporary productivity dips against long-term operational resilience.

Erik Who could evaluate whether training curricula actually match day-to-day software development requirements?

Emilia Senior engineers and department leads would likely need to review practical course outcomes continuously.

Erik Suppose a company faced sudden turnover during an intensive tooling overhaul?

Emilia That could derail ongoing mentorship and leave remaining staff struggling to navigate unvetted automated processes.

Erik Could cross-functional pairing between technical and non-technical staff mitigate that risk?

Emilia In that hypothetical case, shared institutional context would likely cushion the disruption.

Emilia It proves that building a resilient technology ecosystem takes far more than winning venture rounds or hosting multinational regional offices.

Erik It requires local engineering talent solving physical bottlenecks, alongside domestic founders capable of expanding overseas without losing their engineering core.

Emilia From EV charging protocols at UCD to automated real estate audit tools, Dublin's tech community is staying grounded in concrete operational problems.

Erik Imagine how regional ecosystems might evolve if capital continues to favor specialized technical infrastructure.

Emilia Hubs might focus resources on tangible hardware integration rather than generic software clones.

Erik What tradeoffs would founders face when deciding between rapid foreign scaling and deepening domestic research ties?

Emilia They could risk stretching executive bandwidth across time zones while trying to keep local engineering pipelines cohesive.

Erik If early traction faltered abroad, would maintaining a sustainable domestic core protect the venture?

Emilia That could offer a valuable financial cushion, allowing teams to iterate without immediate pressure for rapid venture returns.

Erik Suppose university incubators sought to replicate this pattern across other technical disciplines?

Emilia They would need closer ties with commercial industry leaders who can stress-test laboratory prototypes against actual enterprise workflows.

Erik Could broader economic uncertainty alter founder appetites for building heavy hardware or back-office enterprise products?

Emilia In that hypothetical case, teams might prioritize clear cash-flow positive unit economics over rapid top-line user growth.

Erik Which would keep the focus squarely on demonstrable operational efficiency.

Emilia Suppose local investors prioritized near-term utility savings over grand platform visions?

Erik That could encourage founders to tackle unglamorous industrial pain points that deliver measurable balance sheet relief.

Emilia What might happen if macroeconomic conditions tightened further across European venture markets?

Erik Teams might rely more heavily on collaborative research grants and corporate pilot co-funding.

Emilia One possible tradeoff could be slower corporate decision-making cycles compared to venture-backed blitzscaling.

Erik Yet disciplined pilots would likely yield far sturdier long-term product fundamentals.

Erik A very pragmatic approach for navigating an otherwise turbulent market. Thanks for listening to Europe Builds.

Emilia We will be back soon with more developments across European tech. Take care.
