Emilia Hi, welcome to Europe Builds. I'm Emilia.

Erik And I'm Erik.

Emilia Looking at Dublin this week, Erik, I'm struck by how Irish founders seem to be targeting very specific, unglamorous friction points instead of chasing surface-level hype or flashy concepts.

Erik It really does feel that way. Instead of broad consumer experiments, we see deep engineering, messy physical fleet infrastructure, and focused enterprise back-office workflows taking center stage right now.

Emilia Take Go Eve, for instance. Silicon Republic reported they just secured seven hundred and fifty thousand pounds from Innovate UK and private investors for their charging technology.

Erik They originally spun out of University College Dublin and Imperial College London back in 2021. Their core architecture is called DockChain, co-founded with Hugh Sheehy and John Goodbody.

Emilia The foundational engineering comes from Professor Robert Shorten's research team at UCD's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The underlying concept is sequential charging across multiple vehicle bays.

Erik DockChain connects multiple vehicles to a single high-power DC fast charger. Instead of installing costly high-power boxes at every parking stall, one charger distributes power in sequence along a daisy-chained line.

Emilia That dramatically reduces electrical hardware capital costs and simplifies yard layout. But what caught my eye in the reporting was why they need this fresh capital injection right now.

Erik The physical world turns out to be full of messy edge cases. John Goodbody, their marketing director, highlighted that electric vehicles often misbehave right at the physical connector.

Emilia He explained that some vehicles fail to initiate a charging session on the initial handshake. Others refuse to restart after a pause triggered by grid balancing or internal priority rules.

Erik If you manage a commercial fleet depot overnight, that is a catastrophic failure mode. A delivery van stalls at two in the morning, and nobody is around to physically unplug and reconnect it.

Emilia Come morning, your drivers arrive, and five essential delivery vans are sitting with completely flat batteries. That immediately ruins delivery schedules, risks client contracts, and paralyzes entire daily logistics.

Erik So Go Eve is engineering custom hardware, firmware, and software to give DockChain reliable automated control over starting, stopping, and re-triggering charging sessions without requiring any human presence.

Emilia Their engineering base in Wolverhampton leads this eighteen-month development effort. They are targeting a full production-ready system for manufacturing partners in 2027, including upgrades for units already in the field.

Erik And on top of that, they are actively investigating bi-directional charging and vehicle-to-grid integration. That capability opens up an entirely new economic layer for commercial vehicle fleets.

Emilia Vehicle-to-grid changes the fleet equation completely. If parked vans can push surplus battery power back during peak tariff windows, an idle fleet suddenly becomes a decentralized, revenue-generating power asset.

Erik Fleet penetration across commercial vehicles in the UK is projected to reach thirty to fifty percent by 2030. But local power substations cannot simply double their capacity overnight.

Emilia Heavy electrical grid upgrades require years of complex permitting and massive capital expenditure. Squeezing efficiency out of existing grid connections through smarter sequential distribution is indispensable practical work.

Erik It highlights how lasting commercial value often sits right at the physical interface. And that exact same instinct to eliminate repetitive administrative drag is showing up across Dublin's software companies.

Emilia You are thinking of EstateMin. Silicon Republic reported they closed a one-million-euro pre-seed round to accelerate customer acquisition and product development across the United States.

Erik Their founding story really stood out. Isabella Hughes and Oisín Dolphin met during an NDRC founder weekend hosted at Dogpatch Labs in Dublin back in 2024.

Emilia Dolphin had recently navigated probate after the passing of his father. He was shocked by how manual, paper-heavy, and opaque the entire legal administration process remained for ordinary families.

Erik And Hughes, who had a background as an international boxer and worked as a legal executive, recognized that exact pain immediately. She was living inside that paperwork every single day.

Emilia Her reflection was so clear: when inefficiency is simply part of your daily routine, you stop questioning it. Highly trained legal professionals spend endless hours manually copying information between different static forms.

Erik They brought on John Noonan, who brought four years of domain experience from legal software vendor Clio, initially operating as Simple Probate before rebranding as EstateMin to capture broader estate matters.

Emilia Their software platform digitizes client intake, parses complex estate records, extracts vital information, identifies missing data points, and plugs directly into existing law firm case management systems.

Erik The reported time savings are substantial. Firms using the platform reportedly save five to seven hours on standard estate planning, and five to ten hours on complex estate administrations.

Emilia They also shared that revenue has been growing by twenty percent month on month, supported by Enterprise Ireland's High Potential Start-Up programme, First Port Syndicate, and experienced Irish tech angels.

Erik Establishing a New York base right away shows clear ambition. Rather than staying confined to Ireland's modest legal market, they tailored the product directly to American trust and estate attorneys.

Emilia And the sector tailwinds are massive. Silicon Republic cited Fortune Business Insights estimating the legal-tech market will expand from nearly thirty-four billion dollars in 2025 to almost seventy-eight billion by 2034.

Erik We've seen significant exits and mega-rounds across legal tech recently, like Cork's Bundledocs being acquired by Opus 2. Legal practices are under huge pressure to modernize their back offices.

Emilia When you automate ten hours of document retyping, you lower client billing friction, accelerate settlement during painful family bereavements, and free up attorneys for substantive legal counsel.

Erik That direct transatlantic playbook—proving an operational tool in Dublin and taking it straight to the North American market—is mirrored in another major funding round this week.

Emilia That's property management startup Marc, which secured five million dollars in an oversubscribed seed round, bringing their total capital raised to six million dollars.

Erik The round was co-led by Work-Bench and MXV Capital, joined by well-known operators including Braze co-founder Mark Ghermazian, Intercom's Des Traynor, and Brightflag co-founder Ian Nolan.

Emilia Marc was founded by Aaron Devitt, a Technological University Dublin graduate. Like EstateMin, they established headquarters in New York while keeping deep engineering and operations running in Dublin.

Erik What Marc tackles is an immense data blind spot in institutional real estate: reconciling incoming vendor invoices against contracted terms across huge multi-unit residential portfolios.

Emilia Imagine managing tens of thousands of residential units. You receive an avalanche of monthly contractor invoices for plumbing, roof maintenance, HVAC upkeep, and landscaping.

Erik Marc points out that auditing every line item against fifty-page master service contracts manually is practically impossible. As a result, industry-wide, almost all vendor invoices get rubber-stamped without verification.

Emilia And the financial fallout is severe. Marc calculates that every single dollar lost to unnecessary operating expenditure can erase as much as twenty dollars in underlying property valuation.

Erik Because commercial property valuations are tied to capitalization rates and net operating income multiples. A persistent leak of five hundred thousand dollars in routine maintenance erodes ten million in portfolio value.

Emilia They already monitor portfolios spanning thirty US states and major Canadian property operators, with total assets under management reaching ninety billion dollars across clients like Magnolia Capital and Birge and Held.

Erik Their initial product in the UK and Ireland had already achieved forty thousand monthly logins. Remarkably, Devitt noted they had built a profitable business before raising this round to accelerate in North America.

Emilia Jonathan Lehr from Work-Bench emphasized that over time, Marc is building a granular, hyperlocal database of operating expenses across multifamily housing markets. That compounds into a formidable pricing benchmark.

Erik If a landlord knows the precise market rate for boiler servicing or emergency elevator repairs in Chicago versus Atlanta, their vendor negotiation dynamics change immediately.

Emilia This startup momentum is happening alongside a shifting macroeconomic climate described in RTÉ's recent business reporting across Ireland and Europe.

Erik RTÉ highlighted that Eurozone private sector activity slowed to a four-month low, weighed down by energy-driven costs and renewed contractions in France amid ongoing political and budget uncertainty.

Emilia Locally, Flutter announced corporate restructuring that puts up to two hundred and forty jobs at risk in Dublin, showing that even mature corporate giants are trimming costs.

Erik Yet at the same time, Bloomberg announced plans to double its Irish workforce by the end of the decade, illustrating a selective hiring market where specialized data infrastructure remains resilient.

Emilia When companies face margin tightening, they prioritize software and hardware that provably stop operational leakage, eliminate dead hours, or prevent costly fleet downtime.

Erik Whether it's Go Eve keeping electric delivery fleets running smoothly, EstateMin automating painful probate filing, or Marc protecting commercial property valuations from overbilling errors.

Emilia Dublin acts as a tight proving ground where university research and incubator spaces test these practical solutions before founders take them straight onto the global stage.

Erik A very disciplined, practical approach to company building. That brings us to the end of our Dublin briefing for today.

Emilia Thanks for listening to Europe Builds. We will be back soon with more stories from tech hubs across the continent.
